Salat-ul-Eid is a special prayer performed on the two Islamic festivals: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to properly perform Salat-ul-Eid

1. Preparation

Time: The prayer is performed after the sun has fully risen and before the time for Dhuhr prayer begins.

Location: It is usually performed in open fields, large prayer grounds, or mosques.

Eid Dress: It is recommended to wear good clothes, preferably new or clean clothes, for Eid.

2. Dua Before Leaving Home

Before leaving your home for the Eid prayer, it is recommended to say the following Dua:

“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil hamd.”

This phrase is called the Takbirat al-Tashriq, and it is said as a sign of rejoicing in the greatness of Allah.

3. Arrival at the Prayer Ground

Upon arriving at the prayer ground or mosque, you should greet others with the Islamic greeting “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.”

If you arrive before the prayer starts, you can offer Sunnah prayers (optional prayers), typically 2 rakats, until the Eid prayer begins.

4. The Prayer Itself

The Eid prayer consists of two rakats (units of prayer).

Rakat 1:

Start the prayer by making Takbir al-Ihram (saying “Allahu Akbar”).

In the first rak’ah, after the Takbir al-Ihram, say six additional Takbirs.

After each Takbir, raise your hands (as in the regular prayer) and say “Allahu Akbar.”

After the sixth Takbir, recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by another Surah (commonly Surah Al-Ikhlas or Surah Al-A’la).

Perform the Ruku and Sujood as in a regular prayer.

Rakat 2:

In the second rak’ah, after starting with Takbir, say five Takbirs (this time, there are fewer Takbirs than in the first rak’ah).

After the fifth Takbir, recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by another Surah (like Surah Al-Ikhlas or Surah Al-Qamar).

Perform the Ruku and Sujood, as in the first rak’ah.

After completing both rak’ahs, sit for the final Tashahhud and Tasleem (greeting of peace).

5. Khutbah (Eid Sermon)

After the prayer, the Imam delivers a Khutbah (sermon). This is an important part of Eid. You should listen attentively to the sermon.

During the Khutbah, the Imam usually gives advice, praises Allah, and may discuss themes of the specific Eid (like fasting for Eid al-Fitr or sacrifice for Eid al-Adha).

It is Sunnah to listen to the Khutbah while seated, and the prayer is not valid without it.

6. Dua After Prayer

After the prayer and Khutbah, the congregation typically makes Dua for the well-being of the Ummah and asks Allah for forgiveness, mercy, and blessings.

You can also make personal prayers during this time.

7. Important Notes:

Zakat al-Fitr: On Eid al-Fitr, it is obligatory to give Zakat al-Fitr before the Eid prayer (or as early as possible before the day ends). This is a charity to help the poor participate in the Eid celebration.

Congregational Prayer: Eid prayer is ideally performed in congregation, but if you are unable to join the congregation due to specific reasons, you may perform it alone.

By following these steps, Salat-ul-Eid is performed according to the tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The prayer is a time for gratitude, joy, and spiritual connection with
