In Islam, gossip (*ghibah*) and backbiting are strongly condemned. The Quran and Hadith clearly prohibit speaking ill of others behind their backs, comparing it to eating the flesh of a dead brother (Quran 49:12). Backbiting is considered a major sin because it harms relationships, spreads negativity, and damages the honor and dignity of individuals. Muslims are encouraged to speak good or remain silent, and to address concerns directly with the person involved rather than talking about them in their absence.
