Martyrdom (Shahada) in Islam is primarily interpreted as dying in the path of Allah, defending faith, justice, or community. It is also understood as enduring hardship for one’s faith. Some interpretations include non-combat deaths, such as those from illness or accidents, if the person was living righteously. Martyrs are highly honored in Islam, promised forgiveness and paradise.
