If someone is unable to perform Wudu (the ritual ablution) due to a medical condition, Islam provides alternatives to ensure that the individual can still fulfill their religious obligations, particularly the Salah (prayer). There are provisions in Shari’ah that accommodate the needs of people with physical challenges or health issues.

1. Tayammum (Dry Ablution):

One of the primary alternatives for someone who cannot perform Wudu due to a medical condition is Tayammum. Tayammum is a symbolic purification using clean earth (or its substitute) when water is not available or when its use is harmful due to illness or injury. It allows a person to perform their religious duties without needing water for ablution.

Conditions for Tayammum:

The person must have a valid reason for not being able to perform Wudu (e.g., a medical condition or injury that makes the use of water harmful).

Tayammum is performed by striking the hands on clean earth (or any clean surface like dust, sand, or stone), then wiping the face and hands.

Tayammum is permitted when there is an actual medical condition preventing the use of water, such as a skin condition or a wound that would worsen with water.
