If someone unintentionally breaks their fast during Ramadan, they should:

*Immediate Action:*

1. Stop eating/drinking immediately upon realizing their mistake.

2. Continue with their daily activities, including prayer and other ibadah.

*Making Up for the Missed Fast:*

1. Make intention (niyyah) to fast the missed day.

2. Fast on a later date (known as “qada”) after Ramadan.

*No Expiation (Kaffarah) Required:*

1. Unintentional breaking of fast does not require expiation.

2. Only intentional breaking of fast requires expiation.

*Conditions for Qada:*

1. Missed fast must be made up before the next Ramadan.

2. Qada fasts should be consecutive, if possible.

*Islamic Teachings:*

1. Quran 2:183-185: “And whoever is ill or on a journey, then an equal number of days [should be made up].”

2. Hadith: “Whoever forgets and eats or drinks during Ramadan, should complete his fast.” (Bukhari)

*Additional Guidance:*

1. Consult with Islamic scholars or local imams for specific guidance.

2. Be mindful of intentional breaking of fast, which requires expiation.

3. Maintain sincerity and intention to fast for Allah’s sake.

*Expiation (Kaffarah) for Intentional Breaking:*

1. Free a slave (or equivalent charity).

2. Fast for 60 consecutive days.

3. Feed 60 poor people.

Remember, unintentional breaking of fast is not a sin, but making up for the missed fast is obligatory.
