Salat al-Istisqa, or the prayer for seeking rain, is performed by Muslims when there is a need for rain. Here’s how it’s typically done:

1. **Timing and Location:** The prayer is performed after the sun has fully risen and before the time for the obligatory noon prayer (Dhuhr). It is usually conducted in an open area or a mosque.

2. **Intention (Niyyah):** The worshipper makes the intention for Salat al-Istisqa.

3. **Two Units (Rak’ahs):** The prayer consists of two units (rak’ahs) with an increased number of recitations of Qur’anic verses and supplications.

4. **Additional Takbirs:** In each rak’ah, after the opening Takbir (Takbir al-Ihram), the worshipper recites the opening supplication and then raises their hands and says “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest) three times. After the third Takbir, the worshipper recites Surah Al-Fatiha and another Surah from the Qur’an.

5. **Raising Hands:** After the prayer, the Imam (prayer leader) will give a khutbah (sermon) where he will make supplications for rain. The congregation listens attentively and may raise their hands in prayer along with the Imam.

6. **Supplications:** After the khutbah, a special supplication asking Allah for rain is recited. It’s customary to turn the direction of the prayer towards the Qiblah (the Kaaba in Mecca) and to ask for forgiveness and rain.

7. **Seeking Forgiveness:** It is common to ask for forgiveness and repent during this prayer, acknowledging human dependence on Allah’s mercy.

The prayer is performed with humility and sincerity, reflecting the worshippers’ reliance on Allah for their needs.
