There are several approaches to Quranic exegesis, or tafsir, including:

• Tafsir bi-al-ma’thur: This is the tafsir that was transmitted from the early days of Islam through the Islamic prophet Muhammad and his companions. 
• Tafsir bi-al-ra’y: This is another approach to tafsir. 
• Traditional, opinion, and allegory: These are the three main typologies of tafsir. 
• Scientific approach: This approach is based on scientific facts, not assumptions or theories. 
• Companions’ method: This method was used after the Prophet’s death, and it was based on the Quran, the Prophet’s interpretation, and the Companions’ reasoning.
